In autumn 2018, I got to do some illustrations for children's psychiatric hospital in Helsinki. The whole building was made under the idea that every space needs to be healthy, all materials and techniques were chosen this way. My contribution was the interior images throughout the hospital, hallways, patient rooms, meeting rooms etc. I felt very fortunate to be a part of this amazing project, and tried to give it the best I could, all for better mental health, the little patients and their families, and the amazing people who take care of them.
When we started to talk about what kind of images I would make, it became clear I had to be very sensitive in this matter. This was, after all, a psychiatric hospital, and there were patients from toddlers to early teens. Materials, image subjects and how I represented them were important to get right. In the end the nurses were very excited and delighted about the results, and I hope the patients will be too.
These images were taken when all was still not quite ready, but the illustrations are there. This was a challenging but absolutely wonderful project.
This great project was done with AW2-architects, Fixcel Group and the nurses working at HUS.
